Top photographers gAther in London

With Stockholm on the schedule, we first touched down in vibrant London. After successful editions in Brussels, Berlin, and Amsterdam, we gathered at the characterful 69 Drops Studios in Whitechapel London for a day dedicated to inspiration, light, and community. An other sold out Profoto Roadshow!

For this UK edition, we hosted three insightful masterclasses led by Per AppelgrenIan Hippolyte, and Hollie Molloy. They shared their distinct workflows, their approach to shaping light, and the creative thinking behind their imagery. Throughout the day, product specialists from Profoto and our partner AJ’s were on hand for technical advice and gear demos. Guests were well looked after with catering and drinks, and the event concluded with our signature Touch & Try sessions, allowing everyone to shoot in the masterclass sets using the latest gear.

This event is designed for professional photographers, as well as image-makers eager to elevate their lighting skills. The workshops go beyond technical specs; they dive into the concept behind an image, the creative decision-making process, and the practical realities of working professionals. Seeing how they use light, and more importantly, why, is what makes these sessions so valuable.

THE TEAM BEHIND THE Profoto ROADSHOW

I co-produce the Profoto Roadshow alongside Laurence de Groot, EMEA Event Manager at Profoto.

My role sits at the intersection of marketing strategy and event production. Drawing from my own background as a photographer and marketing strategist, I aim to bridge the gap between the brand and the community. I use my experience in the field and the network I’ve built over the years to ensure we craft a program that genuinely resonates with what photographers are looking for today. It is not just about organizing an event; it is about creating an environment where creativity and practical knowledge meet.

We always aim for a solid mix of lighting setups: from smart, one-light solutions that anyone can apply, to advanced multi-light scenarios for those looking to dive deeper. This ensures the Profoto Roadshow remains accessible yet challenging for both emerging talents and seasoned professionals.

Meet the Masters

Ian Hippolyte Ian brought his signature high-end aesthetic to Studio 2. Known for his sleek fashion and beauty editorials, Ian is a master at creating that polished, commercial look that defines top-tier magazine work. During his masterclass, he broke down his lighting techniques to show exactly how he sculpts light to flatter the subject and create depth, proving that a sophisticated result often comes from a deep understanding of the fundamentals.

Per Appelgren In Studio 1, Per Appelgren turned up the energy. Per is known for his bold use of color and dynamic fashion imagery. His session was all about creativity and breaking the mold. He demonstrated how he uses Profoto gear not just to illuminate, but to create a specific mood and vibrancy. Per showed the attendees that fashion photography is as much about the energy on set as it is about the technical settings.

Hollie Molloy Hollie took over Studio 4 with a focus on glamour and beauty. Her work often carries a cinematic, almost retro-glamour quality, and she shared how she achieves this distinctive style. Hollie’s masterclass focused on the "on-location" feel, teaching photographers how to blend flash seamlessly with the environment to create images that feel luxurious and effortless. She also emphasized the importance of directing and connecting with the model to get that perfect shot.

LONDON CALLING

I usually try to extend my stay by a day or two when we visit a new city, and London never disappoints. It gives me the time to explore, walk the streets with my camera, and soak up the local atmosphere. The industrial vibe of and the energy of London gave this edition a raw and authentic edge. I even find some models to do a freestyle test shoot.

If you want to stay updated on future Roadshows, masterclasses, or trips, feel free to send me a message, and I’ll add you to the mailing list. Keep an eye on my Instagram for more behind-the-scenes content!
